Co-Exist Australia Ltd (ABN 39 660 776 983) is a registered Australian charity (we, us, our). We operate the Co-Exist platform - a youth-led conservation community connecting young people with environmental action across Australia. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

• Account details - name, email address, password (hashed), profile photo, and bio.
• Location - suburb or region you choose to share for connecting with local collectives.
• Content - posts, comments, event registrations, and messages you create on the platform.
• Donations and payments - processed securely by Stripe. We do not store card details.
• Communications - emails or support messages you send us.

Information collected automatically

• Device and browser type, operating system, and IP address.
• Usage data - pages visited, features used, and time spent (via PostHog analytics).
• Error reports - crash data collected via Sentry to help us fix bugs.
• Push notification tokens (mobile only) - used solely to send you notifications you opt in to.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Provide, operate, and improve the Co-Exist platform.
• Connect you with collectives, events, and conservation opportunities near you.
• Send transactional messages - account verification, event reminders, and donation receipts.
• Send platform notifications you opt in to.
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and safety issues.
• Understand how the platform is used so we can make it better.
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.

4. How We Share Your Information

We only share your information with third parties where necessary:

• Supabase - cloud database and authentication infrastructure (data hosted in Sydney, AU).
• Stripe - payment processing for donations and shop purchases.
• PostHog - product analytics (anonymised where possible).
• Sentry - error monitoring and crash reporting.
• Apple / Google - push notification delivery (mobile app only).

All service providers are contractually bound to use your data only to provide their services to us and to protect it appropriately.

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of any person.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in Australia via Supabase's Sydney region. We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), row-level security policies on our database, and hashed passwords. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure - if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

6. Data Retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law (e.g. financial records related to donations).

7. Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to:

• Access - request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction - ask us to correct inaccurate or outdated information.
• Deletion - request deletion of your account and personal data.
• Complaints - lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au if you believe we have mishandled your information.

8. Cookies

The Co-Exist web app uses essential cookies and local storage for session management and authentication. We also use analytics cookies (PostHog) which you can opt out of in your account settings. See our Cookie Policy for full details.

9. Children's Privacy

Co-Exist is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without verifiable parental or guardian consent. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account without consent, please contact us at hello@coexistaus.org.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notification. The date at the bottom of this page reflects when the policy was last updated. Continued use of Co-Exist after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
